While FaZe's roster has seen some turbulent shifts lately, team captain Håvard "rain" Nygaard says the current lineup of himself, Philip "aizy" Aistrup, Aleksi "allu" Jalli, Finn "karrigan" Andersen and Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey is here to stay.
The Norwegian entry fragger sat down with theScore esports to talk about jkaem leaving, karrigan's work as IGL and being the team's dad.
Over the span of two months, you've played four LANs with essentially three different lineups — mixing around kioShiMa, karrigan and jkaem. How has this instability affected your gameplay?
Well first of all, the change with karrigan for kioShiMa in the first place was something we needed, but it turned out jkaem wanted something else and he left the team. But I think it's a good thing for us, having an in-game leader instead of just running around like chickens, you know? [laughs]
Will the roster remain fluid, or will you guys try to stick with the five from now on with the Major looming up ahead?
I think I've changed like ten teammates over a year now, and this is the one I want to stick with.
What makes this one the one you want to stay with?
Just the fact that we have an in-game leader and we have a good chemistry out of the game and we are like friends, good friends, out of the game. That makes it good.
Can you provide some insight as to why jkaem is off the primary roster? Was this his decision or a team decision?
It was his decision. He came to me after some of our games and told me he wanted to leave the team and do something else, and we let him do it.
What's the leadership dynamic in the team now that karrigan has taken over as in-game leader? Is the team adjusting to karrigan's calling or is karrigan adjusting to FaZe's playstyle?
We are adjusting to his playstyle. Everything is new for us, and I think stuff is new for him as well.
With so many tournaments coming up, how do you guys remain focused on the tournament at hand?
We just have karrigan preparing us before games so we don't really get... It's hard to get mixed up when you play esports, you feel like you know who you're playing every time, and most of the teams we know how to play against. Sometimes we lose, but you know...
In the ELEAGUE featurette on you, Maikelele said that you're like the dad of the team. What do you think of that? Do you consider yourself a leader even though you're not calling?
Yea I'm the team captain, but I don't know, I'm probably the most calm guy in the team. Everyone else is like kids sometimes, you know a bit crazy. I mostly stay calm, that's probably why he's saying that.
Do you have any final words for your fans?
I just want to say thanks to you for the support and everything, and thanks to Gfuel and FaZe and everyone that supports us. Thank you.
