Cloud9 knocked out of Americas Minor closed qualifier by MDL teams

It was dark days for the boys in blue this week, after former Major champions Cloud9 were unceremoniously bounced from the Americas Minor Championship NA Closed Qualifier by two Mountain Dew League level teams earlier this week.

Falling to New Identity and The Quest, Cloud9 has failed to qualify for the upcoming NA Minor. On paper, the talented Cloud9 roster of René “cajunb” Borg, William “RUSH” Wierzba, Timothy “autimatic” Ta, Daniel “vice” Kim and Maikil “Golden” Selim, should had little difficulty making it to the Minor proper.

Early on, Cloud9 dominated New Identity 16-2 on Mirage before being reverse swept by the 9-6 MDL team. During the elimination round, The Quest, who holds a 10-5 record, in the MDL 2-0'd Cloud9 on Nuke and then Mirage.

While Cloud9 did compete at IEM Katowice, earning a spot in the Challengers stage for the Berlin Major, roster changes have done away with the core of that team, forcing C9 to begin their run in the online closed qualifier for the Americas Minor.

From pundits to casters, to the C9 player themselves, everyone seems to be baffled and disappointed by the upsets.
