After narrowly missing the first SEA qualification spot at The International 2016, Fnatic have clutched their berth at the biggest international Dota 2 event with a 3-1 victory over Execration in the Grand Finals of the SEA Main Qualifier.

Execration are not going home empty-handed, however. As the runner-up in the Grand Finals, they will advance to the Wild Card stage at TI6, where they will face off against three other Wild Card entrants for the final two spots at the Main Event.

On the way to the Grand Finals, Fnatic marched through the playoff bracket without losing a single game to either White Fries Gaming or WarriorsGaming.Unity. While they did lose Game 3 to Execration, Fnatic maintained a dominant lead throughout the series.

Fnatic is widely regarded as one of the two strongest teams in the region alongside MVP Phoenix, having played at every Valve event since TI5. Despite finishing in the Top 6 at The Manila Major, Fnatic did not receive one of the six invites to TI6; SEA's sole invite went to MVP, who tied with Fnatic for 5th-6th at Manila.

Earlier on in the SEA Main Qualifier, TNC Pro Team secured the first TI6 seed, after tying for first place in the round robin stage and winning two tiebreakers against Fnatic and Execration. TNC had a long road to TI6 through the open qualifiers, following two roster changes that brought in Carlo "Kuku" Palad in April and Jimmy "DeMoN" Ho in June, both after Valve's roster lock deadline.
