I MAY's Road apologizes for comments to Froggen in solo queue

Yun "Road" Hangil, I MAY support and World Championship attendee, responded on Facebook Thursday to a post made on Reddit Wednesday accusing Road of verbally attacking Echo Fox mid laner Henrik "Froggen" Hansen in a solo queue match.

In the Facebook post, Road admitted to telling Froggen to "go die" repeatedly in chat when the two were matched together in a solo queue game. He claimed that rather than telling Froggen to die, he was referring to repeated ganks against Froggen in mid lane.

"The words 'go die' that I said to the pro was not telling him to go die but it was because he had so many deaths and every time he went to mid, he would get ganked and die," he said. "My ability to communicate in English is very limited, which is why I said it that way."

Road said he became angry because he was stressed and "having a tough time mentally."

"I want to apologize to my coaches, teammates and the pro player for causing this kind of issue during the tournament," he said. "I will be cautious to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again."

I MAY have not made an official statement about the incident. The team currently have a record of 1-2 in the Group Stage at the World Championship and play their final games on Sunday.

LEC releases schedule for upcoming Spring Split

The newly-rebranded League of Legends European Championship has released the schedule for its upcoming Spring Split.

From Jan. 18 to March 9, Friday matches will start at 11 AM (CT) and Saturday matches will begin an hour later at 10 AM (CT).

For the last week of competition, which commences on March 15, the schedule will be pushed back an hour in the U.S. due to daylight savings time. As a result, the Friday set starts at 12 PM CT and Saturday’s broadcast begins at 11 AM CT.

The competition is set to start on Jan. 18, with SK Gaming and Fnatic facing off in the season opener.

LEC adds Kia as a sponsor

The LEC has also announced that car manufacturer Kia Motors will be the league's automotive sponsor for the upcoming season.

In celebration of the partnership, Riot Games released a teaser trailer earlier today in which caster and host Trevor “Quickshot” Henry drives around Berlin in a Kia car, assembling members of the LEC talent team.

Kia will be the first major sponsorship landed by the newly-branded LEC, formerly known as the EU LCS, following the league's transition to a franchised model during the offseason.

That said, it isn't the first automotive sponsor to partner with one of Riot's regional league. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz became the official sponsor of China's LPL, following Jeep, who'd been the league's sponsor in 2017.
