For many, the only thing better than watching professional League of Legends is watching Riot Games' weekly Mic Check videos that gives fans a glimpse at the inner-workings of their favorite teams as they listen in on snippets from their voice comms.
Sure it's interesting to get insight into each team's strats and shot-calling, but let's face it, the best part of Mic Check is listening in on pro players screwing around.
10. Team SoloMid vs. Immortals (Sept. 5, 2017)
"How much you want to bet that these guys just got lucky? That's the only reason that they're here?" Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng muses prior to TSM's NA LCS finals match against Immortals.
"Yeah... I don't think that's a good way to think about it," his teammate Soren "Bjergsen" Bjerg responds.
That exchange — combined with Vincent "Biofrost" Wang being a stone cold killer — is well-worth watching the full vid.
9. Cloud9 vs. Counter Logic Gaming (March 2, 2016)
How many times can you say "Jax" in four minutes, 26 seconds? Quite a few, as it turns out.
8. G2 Esports vs. SK Telecom T1 (May 26, 2017)
When the Kings of Europe faced the Gods of the World, no one really expected them to have a chance... not even G2 themselves, to be honest. "Today we can prove we're the best team in the world... we could also prove we're the second best team in the world."
However, they took a game off SKT... which is more than TSM could say at the same event.
7. Team Impulse vs. Team Liquid (July 29, 2015)
Hey remember when Team Liquid were actually good at League of Legends? Relive the glory days in this Mic Check from 2015 that saw TL take on Team Impulse. Plus, it features famous shit-talker Christian "IWDominate" Rivera before his retirement and his bromance with Kim "FeniX" Jae-hun.
6. Echo Fox vs. Team Dignitas (March 16, 2016)
More than just being the best Anivia player in the game, Echo Fox's Henrik "Froggen" Hansen is also a canny strategist. For instance, in this game after Dignitas pushed them out of their base, the Danish veteran saw the perfect opportunity and coached his teammates Terry "Big" Chuong and Yuri "Keith" Jew to double back around through the jungle and go for a back door as DIG chased everybody else down mid.
It's pretty epic.
5. SK Gaming vs. Fnatic (Feb. 25, 2015)
While this game was basically a shit-stomp for Fnatic, this particular episode of Mic Check deserves a spot in the hall of fame if only for Bora "YellOwStaR" Kim's chant of "KDA, KDA, KDA," as he exhorts his teammates to kill Konstantinos "FORG1VEN" Tzortziou even as they're burning SK's Nexus. Meanwhile Kim "Reignover" Yeu-jin played the angel on Fnatic's collective shoulder pleading "End the game! Please! No!" as YellOwStaR tried to hook FORG1VEN.
4. EDwarD Gaming vs. SK Telecom T1 (May 13, 2015)
While Western team comms are often characterized by shouting and repeating the name of a champion until its dead, Eastern teams have a much calmer style.
Even in Game 5 of the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational Grand Final between EDG and SKT, both teams were cool and collected despite everything being on the line.
Even as EDG bore down on SKT's Nexus and dealt them one of their few defeats in a major tournament, they took it gracefully. "It's okay. We did well. We did well," Jang "MaRin" Gyeong-hwan said.
EDG were a little less graceful in victory, but who can blame them after taking down Goliath? "Me Bo5 god ok? EDG Bo5 god!" Clearlove exclaimed in fragmented English.
3. Team Fire vs. Team Ice (Dec. 17, 2015)
The 2015 All-Star Game got a double dosage of Mic Check with an episode dedicated to each team. Not only is it interesting seeing plays from both sides, but you also get to hear the trash talk between players between games.
While both episodes are great, our fave has got to be Team Fire's, if only for Faker's lament of, "This feels cheap," after his entire team ganked Heo "Huni" Seung-hoonbefore TP'ing.
2. Casters vs. Pros (May 26, 2015)
Those who can't do cast, and the reason why became abundantly clear at the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational's Casters vs. Pros show match. Sure the outcome was more or less pre-determined, but seeing your favorite League personalities screw around like your friends on Discord is pretty hype.
1. Team SoloMid vs. Counter Logic Gaming (Feb. 18, 2015)
There might be no greater rivalry in League of Legends than TSM vs. CLG (except perhaps for SKT vs. KT). Looking back at this particular Mic Check from Week 4 of the 2015 NA LCS spring split is particularly cathartic as it features a very different era in the history of both teams.
Not only is does this Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng still wearing the black and blue before he jumped ship, but it also has Marcus "Dyrus" Hill on TSM just months before he retired from competitive League as well as the reassuring voice of former TSM coach Choi "Locodoco" Yoon-sub.
Nostalgia aside, it's a great look at both teams' different styles of shotcalling as well as some great one-liners. For instance, Dyrus' monotone declaration of, "I'm f***ing their backline," should probably be engraved on his his tomb.
