Aurelion Sol will not be available for play during Day 2 and Day 3 of the 2016 League of Legends World Championship Group Stage due to a visual bug that sometimes makes the champion's orbiting stars invisible to opponents.
Thursday's 2016 World Championship Group Stage match between Team SoloMid and Royal Never Give Up had to be remade just over two minutes into the proceedings as TSM mid laner Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg reported that he was unable to see Aurelion Sol's stars, according to the broadcast team.
The bug was not visible to the observer, but Bjergsen's point of view seemed to show that the stars de-synchronized as RNG's Li "Xiaohu" Yuan-Hao disappeared into the fog of war, with one of his orbs lingering within Bjergsen's vision for a moment. When Xiaohu reappeared, the stars were completely absent.
As the investigation into the bug continued, the broadcast team said that the issue may have been tied to the skin that was used, but the decision was ultimately made by Riot Games to remake the game along with a new pick/ban phase all the while disabling Aurelion Sol.
Following the incident, Riot initially said that Aurelion Sol would only be disabled for Day 2 of the 2016 World Championships.
The issue is not the first time that Aurelion Sol's stars have perplexed Riot Games. Bjergsen also experienced an issue with his stars in Game 1 of TSM's semifinal match against Counter Logic Gaming.
In that case, they appeared in areas where Sol wasn't, causing TSM to give up on chasing a kill they could have otherwise secured, as they believed him to be lurking in the bushes nearby. That game was also remade, with Aurelion Sol disabled in champion select.
