Following Edward Gaming's 3-2 victory over Team WE today, EDG's manager San Shao made a statement on weibo regarding pawN's injury and the events of the quarterfinal match.
At Demacia Cup, pawN's back pain flared up, and he was unable to attend the opening ceremony. After the tournament, pawN was sent to Korea for treatment. He returned to finish the LPL regular season matches after U played the best-of-two against WE.
Today, prior to the LPL Playoffs matches, pawN's back pain flared up again. PawN was sent to the hospital, and the team made a last minute substitution for mid lane with U, losing all three of their Game 1 bans. San Shao said in his statement that all of their careful planning and tactics were revised and the team had to "reinvent the wheel."
San Shao woke U this morning to tell him he would play, and U said he was not nervous and performed satisfactorily given the circumstances.
After seeing Edward Gaming lose their first game, pawN asked to be rushed to the stadium from the hospital, saying that "EDG needs me." San Shao did not want to force him to play through his pain, but pawN performed exceptionally, bringing tears to his eyes.
Doctors predicted that pawN will need two months of recovery time, and U confirmed today on his stream that he will be practicing with EDG and playing with them for an indeterminate period of time. It is unclear whether this change will extend to the Mid Season Invitational, should EDG qualify.
To close his statement, San Shao told fans that, watching his team, he knows they can win. All members stepped up in the unexpected crisis and performed admirably. He tells fans not to worry, and that pawN will receive the best treatment the club can provide. He hopes for pawN's speedy recovery.
