G2 Esports have signed former Team EnVyUs players Nathan "NBK" Schmitt, Kenny "kennyS" Schrub and Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, the organization announced Friday. To make room for their new acquisitions, the team parted ways with Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom and Cédric "RpK" Guipouy and have moved Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux to a coaching role.
“With a team and a coaching staff of this quality, our objectives are clearly to win, and especially to remain strong when we come across adversities," Richard “shox” Papillon said in a press release. "We have the ambition to put an end to the lack of stability of the French scene. We think we have the best elements to achieve our goals, and our hard work will help us along this journey."
This news follows a report from FlickShot's Guillaume "Nel" Canelo that said that G2 would be coming out of French shuffle with three members of nV’s roster.
“So far, everyone is extremely motivated and the newly-formed shox/kennyS combo is going to be a deadly one," NBK said in a press release. "Signing long-term contracts proves that we are committed to staying together and working on any issues that will happen along the way. The addition of SmithZz as coach – salute to his big decision to end his lengthy playing career – might be the extra thing that French teams have needed to never settle down and to stick together through thin and thick."
NBK joined nV in February 2015 when the organization signed LDLC’s former roster, while kennyS and apEX signed on in July, when nV swapped players with Titan. While the organization's 2015 was very strong, the roster failed to make the same impact in 2016. They took first place at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 and second place at ESL One: Cologne 2015, but fell to 13th-160th at both the MLG Columbus Major and ESL: One Cologne 2016. Most recently, the team placed 9th-11th at the ELEAGUE Major following a surprising first place finish at WESG 2016.
"The CS:GO community has been very kind and supportive to G2 Esports and we feel grateful that many of you have chosen us as your flagship team," G2 founder and CEO Carlos "ocelote" Rodriguez said in a press release. "In light of your support and the continued growth of CS:GO as an esports game we decided to increase our commitment in our CS:GO roster significantly with the signing of this superteam.”
G2 signed RpK and ScreaM in February 2016, when they acquired FaZe Clan’s former roster. While with the organization, RpK and ScreaM helped the team placed 9th-12th at the MLG Columbus Major, 13th-16th at ESL: One Cologne 2016 and 12th-14th at the ELEAGUE Major. Nel’s report claimed that RpK would be joining nV players Vincent “Happy” Cervoni and Christophe “SIXER” Xia on a new French roster that is allegedly in negotiations with several organizations.
G2’s new roster looks like this:
- Richard "shox" Papillon
- Nathan "NBK" Schmitt
- Kenny "kennyS" Schrub
- Dan "apEX" Madesclaire
- Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro
- Eduoard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux (coach)
