Team Impulse have signed former Vortex mid laner Austin "Gate" Yu, the organization announced Thursday.
Though Gate was mid laner with Vortex, he will be shifting over to the support role and will be competing with Adrian "Adrian" Ma for a spot on Impulse's starting roster.
"Adrian still remains on the roster as it moves to 6 players; we see this to be a very effective way to encourage competition for the starting support position," Alex Gu, the COO of Team Impulse said in a statement. "Gate is a great player with an awesome personality and through his tryout period, we found he was able to play & communicate very effectively in the support role with different elements of our current roster.
"It is also very beneficial that he knows Mandarin to make sure communication with XiaoWeiXiao is top notch."
Gate's signing comes two weeks after the Daily Dot reported that Impulse was looking to replace Adrian with former LolPro Jungler Simon "heavenTime" Jeon. At that time, Team Impulse was 5-5 and sixth in the standings.
Team Impulse is currently tied for third in the NA LCS standings, with a 9-5 record after winning their last five games.
Team Impulse plays Team SoloMid on July 18 and Team Dragon Knights the following day.
