Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios is back on top, and is once again sitting on his throne after a first place finish in Genesis 3's Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament.

Team SoloMid's King of Smash won the tournament from the winners' bracket after a brutal grand finals set with Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby that went to Game 5. ZeRo and Dabuz traded games until they found themselves duking it out on Duck Hunt, where ZeRo picked up a quick zero-to-death that eventually led to taking the set and the tournament.

ZeRo is best known for his unprecedented 56-tournament winstreak in 2015, which was cut short after a loss to Team Liquid's Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada at MLG Finals late last year. The players have not played each other in a tournament since, and were both favorites to reach Grand Finals for a rematch.

Dabuz is often considered a slightly inconsistent, campy fighter with trouble against certain players. The last time he faced off against ZeRo in a Grand Finals was Apex 2015, in a set that he ended up losing. At Genesis however, he showed off a new, more aggressive Rosalina and Luma than ever before, which took him far in the tournament.

ZeRo also defeated Japanese Villager expert Ryuto "Ranai" Hayashi on his run through the winners' bracket. Ranai took both ZeRo and Dabuz to game five and displayed some incredible adaptation, coming back from 0-2s in both sets.

Meanwhile, MLG Finals champion and ZeRo's rival, Nairo, was upset early on in the tournament after a loss to Mexican Toon Link pro Crisitan "Hyuga" Medina sent him to losers' bracket. He finished fifth after a loss to Dabuz.

The Top 8 also included a few wildcard players. Freddie "FOW" Omar Williams, Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland, James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson and Tyler "Marss" Martin all made impressive showings with wins over tournament favorites. Marss brought down Hyuga and Earth on his way to the Top 8, while Larry Lurr beat Ramin "Mr. R" Delshad and Wesley "6WX" Alexander. In the Top 8, VoiD beat Larry Lurr and FOW before going down to Dabuz in the losers' semifinals.

The final Top 8 standings for Genesis 3's Smash 4 tournament are as follows:

1: Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios
2: Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby
3: Ryuto "Ranai" Hayashi
4: James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson
5-6: Nairobi "Nairo" Quezada
5-6: Freddie "FOW" Omar Williams
7-8: Tyler "Marss" Martin
7-8: Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland
