Eric "ESAM" Lew and Aziz "Hax" Al-Yami will be headed to the Smash Summit 2, thanks to a fan vote.
Hax recently returned from a hiatus, and finished third at Pound 2016 after a 3-0 loss to Joseph "Mang0" Marquez in the Loser's Finals. However, he beat Mang0 3-2 earlier in the tournament, and also took wins over Michael "Nintendude" Brancato and Zachary "SFAT" Cordoni in Top 16.
Hax's last tournament before his hiatus was Evolution 2015, where he finished 17th. He was once considered among the best Fox players in the world, and the best Captain Falcon in the world before dropping that character. Melee It On Me ranks him 19th in the world, even though he did not attend any tournaments between June 2015 and February 2016.
ESAM is best known as a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player, but also plays Melee competitively. He finished ninth at B.E.A.S.T 6's Melee tournament, after losses to William "Leffen" Hjelte and Amsah "Amsah" Augustuszoon. ESAM is also ranked 81st on the 2015 Melee It On Me world rankings.
His performance in Smash 4 has been stronger than in Melee, and he is commonly ranked among the top five North American players in that game. In Smash 4, he placed ninth at Pound 2016, third at B.E.A.S.T 6 and fifth at EVO 2015.
In receiving a Smash Summit invite in the first round, ESAM beat out top Melee players like Kevin "PewPewU" Toy, Justin "Wizzrobe" Hallet and his Panda Global teammate, Robert "Wobbles" Wright.
The three players with the least mount of votes before the first cut-off — Ryan "The Moon" Coker-Wench, Hugo "HugS" Gonzales and Javier "Javi" Dantes Ruiz — have been eliminated from the next round of fan votes. Four more players are set to be voted into the Smash Summit 2.
