Right after the conclusion of the ESL One Cologne 2016 offline qualifiers, the groups for the main event were drawn on stream.
They are as follows:
Group B features the defending Major champions Luminosity, Fnatic who have a numerous Major titles under their belt, as well as G2 and FaZe, two of the strongest teams in Europe.
Group A looks to be a tough group to call, as both nV and VP have been in states of flux, though more recently they’ve seen an upturn in performance, while mouz look stronger than ever. Liquid have been in a slump, but with the return of s1mple, they have the same firepower that brought them to a Top 4 finish during MLG Major Championship: Columbus.
Group D will not be a cakewalk either as both Na`Vi and NiP find themselves in that group, and are HLTV’s second and third ranked teams respectively. OpTic and FlipSid3 will have to pull off miracles to exit that group.
The most closely skilled group looks to be Group C, featuring the Danish squads Team Dignitas and Astralis, which have notably swapped players recently. Also in the group is CLG who gave competitive games to Astralis during ELEAGUE, as well as Gambit Gaming, who caused a number of upsets during the qualifier.
ESL One Cologne 2016 features a $1 million prize pool and will take place on July 5-10 at the Lanxess-Arena in Cologne, Germany.
