This year's International has once again broken the record for largest prize pool for an esport event, surpassing last year's total of $18,429,613 on Tuesday evening.

The prize pool started with a base of $1,600,000 provided by Valve, with the rest paid for by fans via a percentage of Valve's International Battle Passes. Within 18 days of crowdfunding, the prize pool surpassed $10,000,000.

The total has steadily approached last year's record over the past two weeks, but finally broke through on Tuesday with the release of the Immortal Treasure III, a special skin set for Battle Pass holders.

The International 2016 main event will run from Aug. 8-13 in Seattle. The Wild Card stage starts on Aug. 2.
