Rogue have defeated REUNITED 3-1 to win the ESL Atlantic Showdown in Cologne and earn the $40,000 grand prize.
The team qualified for the event on the Loser's side of the bracket at the EU Main Qualifier, but shocked Cloud9, Team EnVyUs and REUNITED during their run at the tournament. They played close sets against each of those opponents, and even their loss to REUNITED in the group stage was narrow.
REUNITED, meanwhile, faced compLexity Gaming, Rogue and Fnatic to get to the Grand Finals. The final day of the ESL Atlantic Showdown would have to feature some incredible matches to beat out the first, yet somehow it managed to do exactly that.
The series started on Hollywood, where REUNITED failed to push the payload to the very last point by only a couple of meters. Rogue managed to break through with great offense from Kevyn "TviQ" Lindström and Dylan "aKm" Bignet, narrowly taking the game.
Ilios went REUNITED's way on both Well and Lighthouse, but Rogue took Ruins with some great Reaper play from aKm. Back on Well, Finley "Kyb" Adisi was a nuisance and helped take the round and map for REUNITED, tying the series at 1-1.
On Dorado, REUNITED attacked first and managed to finish the map, albeit with a lengthy 8:53 time. In Rogue's turn on attack, TviQ's Genji proved a vexing menace, and they earned their second map win with the quicker finish.
King's Row was REUNITED's choice, and Kyb pulled out his Hanzo for the attack against the first point as they pushed to the end in 8:11. But they couldn't stop Rogue, who got huge ultimates from TviQ and aKm in the Foundry phase to end the map and the series.
Rogue's earlier series against Team EnVyUs was maybe the best of the tournament, featuring a series of shocking finishes that eventually broke nV's 57-match competitive win streak. Rogue took an explosive finish with a huge Pulse Bomb/Graviton Surge wombo combo on Lijiang Tower.
