Collegiate Colosseum has announced a multi-game esports event for North American university and college students, which will offer $100,000 in scholarships and prizes spread across competitions in Overwatch, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Hearthstone.

The event promises to pit 100 university and college esports teams against one another, and expects as many as 2,000 participants in Las Vegas on Dec. 19-21. It's billed as a first-of-its-kind event, and the largest collegiate-level tournament in NA this year.

"CCNA’s vision is to introduce a competitive environment at the collegiate level, while helping students pay for tuition and bridging the gap to the professional leagues," event director Kitty Nguyen said in a press release.

The organization's first esports event was held earlier this year in Orange County, with 15 schools participating in tournaments for Heroes of the Storm, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Street Fighter V, Smash 4 and LoL. Tournament organizers said they have seen enough interest from university and college teams to take their next event national.

In addition to offering prizes and scholarships for competitors, CCNA said it plans to match each prize with an equal-value contribution to the school each winner represents.

Registration for Collegiate Colosseum is open from Aug. 31 to Sept. 22, and online qualifiers will be held between Sept. 23 and Dec. 2.
