Elliot "Ally" Bastien Carroza-Oyarce is bringing the Rio eGames Super Smash Bros. for Wii U gold medal to Canada.

The Canadian EVO champion ran through the bracket almost undefeated, defeating Trinidad and Tobago's Darien "Wabz" Jardine, Mexico's Leonardo "MK Leo" Lopez-Perez and America's Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland 3-0, with a close 3-2 win over Larry in the Grand Finals. Ally stuck to Mario the whole time, while his opponents swapped back and forth between their characters in their attempts to bring him down.

Larry saw the most success with Fox, and was the first person to take a game off of Ally the entire tournament in Game 2 of Grand Finals, taking both of Ally's stocks in just over a minute. Larry and Ally traded games across the first set, but Ally closed it out just before Larry could reset the bracket with an early zero-to-death combo to kick off Game 5 and while Larry managed to make it all the way back to an even game, Ally managed to close out the set and take the gold with a clutch back-throw.

Despite winning EVO, Ally recently placed 5th-6th at Super Smash Con 2016, after losses to Wesley "6WX" Alexander and James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson. Larry Lurr did not attend Smash Con, but did place ninth at EVO following an elimination match loss to Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios.

The Top 3 placements for the Smash 4 Rio eGames tournament are as follows:

  • Gold: Canada - Elliot "Ally" Bastien Carroza-Oyarce (Mario)
  • Silver: USA - Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland (Fox/Donkey Kong)
  • Bronze: Mexico - Leonardo "MK Leo" "Lopez-Perez (Marth/Meta Knight/Cloud)
