Panda Global have signed Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. as their newest sponsor, the organization announced Wednesday.
“Toshiba understands the unique needs of gamers and we are constantly striving to deliver high performance SATA and NVMe solid state drives to empower eSports and gaming enthusiasts,” Alex Mei, VP of Consumer SSDs and Storage Outbound Marketing at Toshiba, said in a statement to theScore esports. “Panda Global will be leveraging our retail Toshiba-OCZ Series SSDs throughout the year when training and competing and we are thrilled to work with such a fast growing and talented team.”
This sponsorship marks the computer giant's first esports team sponsorship, as well as their first step into esports. Panda Global has a history of signing first-time esports sponsorships with several companies, including Anime distribution company Funimation.
"Panda Global is proud to bring Toshiba into the esports space. The Toshiba-OCZ Series SSDs is a perfect fit for the esports enthusiast so its a natural fit for a [sponsorship] between us," Panda Global's CEO, Alan Bunney said in a statement to theScore esports.
Toshiba is the latest major electronics and computer company to get involved in esports. Samsung, Dell, HP, ASUS and Acer have all sponsored esports teams and events in the past.
